Description

This program contains 3 learning courses of material: Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical.

This technical training is intended for job site managers, or anyone interested in expanding their knowledge on how plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems function and how to ensure quality installations.

Plumbing contains four modules:

  • Module 1, Plumbing overview, provides a high-level look at how the plumbing system functions, specific supply and drainage features and the testing they undergo, and various plumbing materials allowed by code including copper, plastic, iron, and more.
  • Module 2, Underground plumbing, describes the installation sequence to bring water from the curb into the home as well as move waste water into the sewer system. It includes specifics for slab on grade and basement/crawlspace foundations, as well as quality checkpoints.
  • Module 3, Rough plumbing, outlines what to look for in a quality installation, including pipe protection and framing considerations, as well as gives room-by-room quality checkpoints.
  • Module 4, Finish plumbing, gives a checklist of what to look for to ensure a complete and quality installation that will pass the final plumbing inspection.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning contains three modules:

  • Module 1, HVAC overview, provides a high-level look at how the HVAC system functions, how the air is cooled, heated, and distributed, how the home is ventilated, and the various heating/cooling systems and how they differ.
  • Module 2, Rough HVAC, outlines what to look for in a code-compliant and high-quality installation, including framing considerations, and gives quality checkpoints for furnaces, air conditioners, ductwork, combustion exhaust systems, and bath, kitchen, and laundry exhaust systems.
  • Module 3, Finish HVAC, describes what happens as thermostats, supply registers, and return grilles are installed, and as the furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductwork are tested, and gives checkpoints that will help ensure a complete and high-quality installation that will pass inspections without delays and satisfy customers.

Electrical contains four modules:

  • Module 1, Electrical overview, explains the path that electricity takes from the power plant to the home. It includes additional explanation about the layout and function of the main electrical panel, electrical circuits, and grounding.
  • Module 2, Service cable installation, reviews the process used to bring electrical service underground from the transformer pad or pole to the home's electrical meter. Additionally, it explains the options and considerations for selecting and installing job site power.
  • Module 3, Rough electrical, outlines the electrician's work at this stage of construction and details what site supervisors need to check regarding receptacles, cabling, and the electrical panel. Quality installation practices are highlighted, too.
  • Module 4, Finish electrical, includes a room-by-room checklist that site supervisors can use during a final walk-through to ensure that all electrical is installed neatly and is functioning properly. It also explains the final testing of the system, typically done by the electrician.
